![]() Geetar let ring smartshape.JPG 28KB (image/jpeg) Does anybody know if the SmartShape methods are supposed to work? After that, the ARTICULATION worked but neither of the SmartShape methods worked. Update: I went into HP settings and selected "Custom", then checked on Interpret Pedal Markings and Auto Piano Pedaling. Am I just reading the documentation wrong ? NONE of these are triggering the pedal effect with HP. In the example below, the first measure uses the custom Smartshape pedal line (which is what I really want to do.) The second measure uses the customer SmartShape Ped - * marking. And also you are supposed to be able to trigger pedal effects in HP by using the pedal articulations. The implication is that HP will honor that without having to edit the continuous data. Maybe I am reading the documentation wrong, but it seems to say you can use custom line SmartShapes to indicate pedaling. It would be cool in the future to be able to create a smartshape that can generate particular MIDI commands at the beginning and the end of the shape (pedal = 100 and pedal = 0 respectively in this case). ![]() I think that is a lot cleaner than hanging ties because they won't all end at the right place.įor playback, the sustain pedal works perfectly, but is really tedious to enter. ![]() The guitarist in this case is trained on piano so I'm sure the concept will make sense to him. In most measures, the ides is to sustain to the end of the second beat and then play the 8th notes in the third beat as separate notes. Yes, the brackets seem simple and clear to me. It seems to me it isn't completely obvious which notes to ring without some kind of marking. (By "Piano style" I am referring to the bracket convention, not the "Ped. Then how should I indicate which notes to ring? A piano style notion would look like the attached. Just let loose ties hang out of the tones you wanna let ring. Guitarist's have a tendency to let strings ring on anyway.Īnd, a good instrumentalist will make an interpretation that is musically acceptable to them while accompanying the vocal. If it comes down to it, I might export the MIDI to SONAR and fix the MIDI file there and then bring it back into Finale, but I hope there is an easier way. ![]() Two questions:ġ) What is the best way to show this so that the guitar player will know exactly which notes to let ring?Ģ) What is the best way to get the playback to sustain the rung notes - and I truly hope the answer isn't to go edit the MIDI data. For these, the first 2 beats in each measure are sustained, as in an arpeggio, but it is in time, so I don't want to show it as a rolled chord, The breath marks show where the sustain stops. I have included a picture with the first few pars. This is an arrangement for the original artist, so I want the notation to reflect how the piece was originally played on the recording. I have a piece that includes a section with guitar and vocal. Rather than re open a 10-year old thread, I'm posting the questions anew. There were some very old threads about this, but they really didn't answer my questions.
